Description

English Literature is one of the most vibrant and popular subjects to study at A level. It is highly valued by both Universities and employers as a traditional academic subject of high status. It combines easily with every subject in both Arts and Science areas and develops skills in:

  • Logical argument
  • Critical thinking
  • Research and analysis
  • Group work and debate
  • Writing
  • Presentational skills
  • Empathy.

This will include: A variety of prose, poetry and drama texts for you to study.

  • Pre 1900 prose – David Copperfield by Charles Dickens (Penguin Classics)
  • Post 1900 prose – The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad (Penguin Classics)
  • Poetry – Mean Time by Carol Ann Duffy (Picador)
  • Drama – A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams (Penguin Modern Classics).

NB: The AS is a freestanding course and can be studied without progression to the A2.  The AS and A2 will each take one year to complete at a cost of £500 plus exam fee per year (fees are subject to change).  Exam costs will be confirmed following enrolment.

Please note that classes will run on alternate weeks.

This course will only run if sufficient applicants are received, and hours for the course could also change dependent on numbers.
