BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Programming, Networking and IT

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma is an advanced level vocational IT course involving theoretical and practical study in both computer and ICT related topics. It is an exciting course that includes a wide range of units designed to provide an excellent platform for students wishing to either progress towards a course in Higher Education or enter the IT industry.

The qualification provides you with the essential skills and knowledge in preparation for university or employment and covers many specialisms such as a range of programming languages plus hardware & networking whilst providing a solid grounding of essential information & communication technology processes within the context of the business environment.

Course Content:

This two year full time course is designed for students looking for a career as an IT professional. Units are carefully selected to enable you to progress in a way that suits your immediate and future needs. The qualification offers the core content of generic units covering a wide range of IT skills needed in industry whilst specially selected units will support and enhance your progression.

Specialist advice and guidance will be available at the end of year one to help you with university choices or to assist you in selecting the best route into employment. The final qualification is equivalent to three A Levels worth up to 168 UCAS points under the new UCAS tariff table and is well regarded by Higher Education institutions for progression.

This course is Advanced Learning Loan eligible, which can fully cover the course fees.

What you should expect from your Study Programme:

  • A substantial qualification e.g. GCSE, A level or vocational equivalent
  • Meaningful work experience
  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.

On completion of the course most students will go on to do a computing related degree in Higher Education. Some may go on to further training and/or training whilst in employment.
