Business Subsidiary Level

3 Diploma

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Business is a 1 year programme, aimed at 16-18 year olds. It is designed to give students the knowledge, understanding and skills needed for employment in business.

Course Content

Mandatory Units

The team will select optional units from a bank of 37 in order to give students the opportunity to achieve the 60 credits required to obtain the qualification. Units such as Business Accounting, Creative Product Promotion, Supply Chain and Stock Management, Business Ethics, Human Resource Management in Business, Developing Teams in Business, Managing a Business Event, Aspects of Contracts and Business Law, Business Project Management, Understanding Retailing, Fashion Retailing, Business and the Economic Environment, and Business Markets and the Economy will be considered as potential options.

Additional Study

In addition, there is an option for students to complete a Level 3 Diploma in Financial Studies (IFS course). This can provide up to 120 UCAS points over 2 years. This qualification will enhance the opportunities to progress onto higher education and/or to a career in financial services. Students are strongly recommended to take this option in addition to the main course.

  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.

What the course leads to

The course will prepare students for employment or advancement at work. In addition, students will have the opportunity to progress onto a second year BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business course.

Students will benefit from the course as this will provide them with the knowledge and skills required to start their own business, or to seek employment in a business organisation.

Progression onto the second year will be at the discretion of the course leader subject to performance and level of attendance during the first year of the course.

The course complies with the new Qualification Credit Framework.
