Can't wait for LIMF

It’s coming… LIMF (Liverpool International Music Festival, for anyone who hasn’t heard about it yet), is coming to Sefton Park for August Bank Holiday. Perfect long weekend sorted!

They’ve got a great line up and loads of my friends are going. We’re going to make the most of the weekend and try and see and hear as much of the music as possible.

The line-up this year is brilliant! It includes Basement Jaxx, Naughty Boy, Labrinth and Echo and the Bunnymen – they’re the ones I’m most looking forward to but there are plenty of other people playing that my friends want to see too.

You know the best bit? The whole weekend is completely free! I feel really lucky that we get such a great festival, with such big names, right on our doorstep.

As a bit of a music nerd – that’s to say, I’m doing a Music Technology diploma – it will be really great to get a glimpse of the work that goes on behind such a massive event too. It’ll be great to see the things that go on in the background and what can be achieved to produce a smooth and entertaining event.

It can be easy to forget about the behind the scenes work when you’re out enjoying yourself but since I started studying at the College, I’ve always been paying attention when I’m out and about. I make sure I remind my friends too! I’ll be sure to point out the high tech stuff going on in the background behind this festival too… I’ll tell you all about it afterwards!

About Me

The City of Liverpool College has given me so many opportunities to expand my knowledge beyond the classroom, like working on the sound for a theatre show at the Echo Arena.

It is this mix of theoretical and practical, backed up by expert tutors and state-of-the-art technology that really opens up doors and brings the subject to life.

I first heard about the college from friends who studied here. When I visited, my first thought was, ‘this is a big place’. Very quickly, though, I saw that it wasn’t overwhelming or intimidating. Quite the opposite, in fact, it is vibrant and exciting and the size just means that there are more interesting people to meet and learn from and collaborate with.

When I tell people what I do, they immediately assume that I’m mixing music for bands but I’m really focused on sound for moving image. I really want to work in movies or animation and the skills of our tutors, the facilities we have here and the links with the film industry are proving to be invaluable to me.
