College students celebrate 100% pass rates

College students are celebrating success today (17 August) after receiving outstanding A-level results in core subjects.

Results are showing 100% pass rates in many subjects including Further Maths, Chemistry, French, Government & Politics, Philosophy and Art & Design, which is an overall increase in high level grades compared to last year.

There were scenes of jubilation at the Learning Exchange campus on Roscoe Street as students received their results.

Amongst other high-performing courses were ICT, history, media and film studies, with many of those studying creative courses looking to go on to further study or work in the region’s booming creative and digital sector.

Elaine Bowker, Principal and Chief Executive of the City of Liverpool College, said: “We’re delighted for our students and staff, who have worked very hard. These results build on the success of last year’s achievements and are a testament to the commitment of staff and the quality of the teaching environment we are able to offer.

“Science and technology skills are fundamental drivers for the Liverpool City Region economy as, increasingly, we are connecting with employers and businesses to offer our students a path into industry.

“There are many great stories of individual achievement emerging today and many of our students will be the first in their families to attain A-level qualifications.

“This is so important because we are determined to play our part in widening participation in higher education so that people from all parts of the city region can experience a learning environment which is vibrant, encourages independence, whilst giving support to students.”

Dr Katie Spall, Assistant Principal of City 6, said: “I and my colleagues are very proud of the students who have achieved top grades and worked so very hard to get them.

“It can be a big step from school to A-levels and college and our students have shown the maturity and determination to make that change. For us, it’s also about exposing students to new experiences, knowledge and contacts that may spark an idea for a new business, start-up or joint venture.

“I want to congratulate all the students who have received their results today.”
