16-18 (School Leavers)

Tuition for full-time further education courses is free for most under 19 year olds, and if you’re aged 16 to 18 you may also get extra help towards the cost of college from our Learner Support Fund, depending on your family income. For more information, click here.

Aged 19+

There are fees attached to all courses but the good news is, depending on your family income, you may be entitled to help from college with fees, travel costs, childcare, or equipment needed for your course.

Your fees may be free if you are claiming certain benefits or are starting your first full level 2 or 3 course (conditions apply). However, you may have to pay exam and/or registration fees so please ask about this when applying to college. For more information, click here.

Advanced Learner Loans are now available for students aged 19 and above who are due to commence their studies after 1st August 2016 and who will be studying at Levels 3 to 6.  Please see below (Aged 24+) for further information.

Aged 24+

Advanced Learner Loans give students in further education access to financial support for tuition costs from the Student Loans Company, you will only start to repay the loan once you’ve completed the course and are earning over £21,000.

A loan is available to students studying a Level 3 or Level 4 (none Higher Education) course including A-levels, BTEC Level 3, NVQ Level 3, and Access to Higher Education courses. If the loan is for an Access to Higher Education course and you subsequently go on to complete a higher education course you won’t have to pay back your Advanced Learning Loan.

Most students aged 19 and over, studying at Level 3 and above, will qualify for these new loans from the UK government. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there is no credit check. For more information, click here or if you're looking at Access to Higher Education, visit here
