Vacancy Description:

This is an excellent opportunity for young person who is looking for a career in customer service in a food retail environment.

As our apprentice, you will be an advocate of healthy and organic products. You will be knowledgeable and passionate about our products and provide customer with the information they need.

You will need to be flexible and have excellent timekeeping.

As part of your role at the Food Market, you will be responsible for ensuring every customer receives the highest standard of service. Included in your role will be the following:

  • Operating the checkout
  • packing and wrapping purchases
  • taking payments and making sure the till balances at the end of the day
  • arranging stock, posters and other publicity material
  • directing customers to particular items in the store
  • monitoring stock levels
  • moving stock cages or boxes from stores or freezer rooms
  • replacing products on shelves, racks or in chiller cabinets
  • removing out of date or damaged items
  • checking that shelf labelling is correct
  • keeping work areas neat and tidy


Skills Required:

  • good timekeeping skills

  • the ability to work quickly and accurately

  • team working skills

  • the ability to follow floor plan instructions

  • a good memory

  • customer service skills


Personal Qualities required:

  • Good hygiene

  • Ability to work well in a team

  • Product knowledge

  • A creative side (for creating displays)

  • Good maths skills


Qualifications Required:

English and maths at GCSE would be preferred

An IT qualification would also be desirable


Training to be provided:

Customer Service Level 2

Functional Skills


Expected Duration:

12 Months


Working Week:

40 hours per week:

Shifts between 8am and 8pm – Monday to Sunday.


Future Prospects:

A full time position is available for the right candidate.


Other Important Information:

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
