The BTEC Level 4 HNC Health and Social Care at The City of Liverpool College is a unit based programme. This qualification is aimed at providing you with underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for success in employment in the health and/or social care sector.

Skills and Knowledge Developed: On the programme, you will study a range of units including Communicating in Health and Social Care Organisations, Principles of Health and Social Care Practice, Working in Partnership in Health and Social Care and Safeguarding in Health and Social Care Services. In addition you will utilise at least 200 hours of work experience within a relevant agency as part of the Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care unit. You will also study specialist units, including The Sociological Context of Health and Social Care; Safeguarding in Health and Social Care and Psychology for Health and Social Care.

Progression: The units offered on this programme allow you to achieve a BTEC HNC Diploma Health and Social Care (Care Practice) level 4 qualification, which allows you to go on to study for a Level 5 BTEC HND Diploma Health and Social Care in Care Practice or Management, depending on subsequent units chosen. As a level 4 qualification, you may be able to use this award for progression onto another higher education programme of study but you will need to check the entry requirements of any such programme that you are interested in. This is a level 4 qualification in the Qualifications and Credit Framework. It does not lead to a professional qualification in nursing, medicine or social work.

Special Features: All course tutors are qualified health and social care professionals with a wide and extensive range of experience in these fields of practice.

Teaching Methods: The course primarily uses classroom based teaching methods, supplemented by guided independent study facilitated by material and tasks made available via the City of Liverpool student website. Learning from workplace experience is developed and consolidated in through tutor visits to the work place and college based programme activities.

Assessment Methods: A range of assessment methods are used including academic essays, shorter workbook based tasks, and skills development tasks including presentations. In addition, a portfolio is used to record your development and progress through work place activity.
