Workplace

The ITQ is the new replacement qualification for the NVQ in IT and is targeted at adults who use IT for work.

The ITQ has the potential to incorporate a wide range of IT skills qualifications and training through a system of endorsements. At each level, the optional units allow for either assessment of the skills in using IT that are relevant to the candidate's job role or for the certification through an endorsed qualification or employer training scheme.

There are two types of unit in this qualification:

Mandatory - you will have to achieve these in order to achieve the qualification overall.

Optional - you may be able to choose from a range of optional units depending on your job role.

Requirements:

* Level 1 - one mandatory workplace unit plus optional units to the required value of credits

* Level 2 - one mandatory workplace unit plus optional units to the required value of credits

* Level 3 - one mandatory workplace unit plus optional units to therequired value of credits

Rules of Combination:

* The mandatory unit must be achieved at the level of the qualification

* At least half the value of the optional units must be achieved at the level of the qualification

All of our Study Programmes are designed to help you to develop your skills and widen your college experience.

What you should expect from your Study Programme:

  • A substantial qualification e.g. GCSE, A level or vocational equivalent
  • Meaningful work experience
  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.

Improved opportunities in the workplace.

To gain your ITQ certificate you will be expected to show competence in the mandatory unit and, when you have successfully completed the relevant units you will be able to claim your NVQ. The certificate will be awarded by City and Guilds. Even if you only complete some of the units, you will still be able to claim unit certification.
