The Merseyside and Warrington Science Learning Partnership (SLP) is run from The City of Liverpool College, and is dedicated to creating a vibrant buzz around science education.

The SLP arranges quality, relevant, up to date and dynamic Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and networking opportunities for Primary, Secondary and FE Staff in the area of Science.

We have a fantastic range of science CPD courses available, including courses for your whole department – from NQTs to new department leaders.

Alternatively, we are more than happy to visit your school, and meet with either the Head teacher or Science coordinator to discuss your science needs and how we can work together to meet these needs.

Physics for non-specialists

If you have been asked to teach physics and it is outside your specialist area, this course is for you. It has been developed with the Institute of Physics and throughout the course we will develop your understanding of the principles of physics and the skills and strategies needed to teach the subject effectively and improve student motivation and attainment.

Preparing for practical teaching and assessment in A level biology

This course is designed to prepare teachers to make effective use of practical work in the new A level science courses and use them to improve outcomes for students.  The course looks at how activities can be run effectively, used to support the awarding of the practical endorsement and to improve exam grades

Strengthening practical work in new GCSE’s: Biology

We will explore strategies for teaching topics across the biology curriculum and develop an understanding of how practical work can be made more relevant and effective. There will be hands-on opportunities to explore interesting and creative approaches to new and familiar practical techniques using a range of resources, publications and ICT applications to make students learning more effective.

Meeting the demands of chemistry in the new GCSE specifications

This one day course will show how specific activities can be used to get across key concepts: use math skills and develop practical skills in Chemistry. They will focus on independent guidance covering the requirements of all major exam board specifications.

Assessment & progression in primary science

Evidence shows that effective Assessment for Learning (AfL) leads to raised attainment. Now that formal recording of levels has been removed, you need to be secure in your understanding of how to make judgements about children's achievements and progress.Throughout the course we will identify how you can integrate and embed assessment practices into your science teaching.
