At Liverpool Community College you can learn in a way that suits you
We offer a range of courses that suit the learning styles of a wide variety of learners. With the choice
of programmes on offer you can match a course to the way you learn. Our courses offer progression to university
and employment.
Course programmes
A-levels (AS: year 1, A2: year 2)
- A-levels are assessed by examinations and coursework;
- Many students take 4 subjects in year 1 to AS and three subjects to A2 in
the second year.
BTEC National
- BTEC National qualifications are assessed by coursework and examination
- BTEC National qualifications are career related and are the equivalent to:
1 A-level (award); 2 A-levels (certificate); 3 A-levels (diploma).
BTEC First Diploma
- BTEC First qualifications are assessed by coursework and examination;
- A BTEC First gives you the opportunity to study in an area of work that interests you;
- You study at a level equivalent to GCSE.
NVQ Levels 2 and 3
- You develop practical skills for particular jobs;
- You study at a level equivalent to GCSE;
- Work based learners also take NVQs.
City and Guilds/Technical Certificates
- They provide underpinning knowledge for NVQs;
- They provide job related skills;
- They are assessed in the college.
GCSEs
- Many learners are familiar with GCSEs from school;
- GCSEs are assessed by examinations and coursework.
Diplomas
- There are currently five diplomas available in the following areas: construction and the built
environment; creative and media; engineering; information technology; society, health and
development. Four more diplomas will run from September 2009 in:
- Business Administation and Finance
- Environmental and Land Based Studies
- Hair and Beauty Studies
- Hospitality
- The Diploma comprises of appropriate compulsory elements; English, maths, and ICT skills; work
experience; student projects; personal learning and thinking skills;
- The Diploma is available at further, higher and advanced levels.
