Course Enrichment

Last updated on 08/09/2010

Most college programmes provide opportunities to learn outside college. This may include field trips, individual visits, attending performances or exhibitions and work placements. Fashion learners go to the London shows; photographers to the Photography Museum at Bradford; art learners to a range of exhibitions; Performing Arts learners to plays, concerts, ballets and operas and of course the Red Lion hotel at Grasmere is run for a weekend in the winter by Catering and Hospitality learners. Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy learners regularly visit commercial shows and demonstrations.

Some learners have the opportunity to travel abroad. Travel Power learners have recently been to Paris and a visit to Euro Disney is part of the course programme followed by Leisure and Tourism learners.

Apart from visits which are linked to course programmes, a range of activities are organised for learners across the college. Some examples include:

  • Five-a-side football, yoga and women’s volleyball
  • Developing DJ skills
  • Producing “The Eye” (student newsletter)

A learner representative system is in place for full-time and many part-time courses. Learner reps get the opportunity to be trained for this role and to meet reps from other courses.
