Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties

Last updated on 18/08/2009

Up to one in ten people have a specific learning difficulty like dyslexia. Dyslexia is a mix of difficulties and strengths which often include reading, writing, organisation and short term memory. Common strengths can often be problem solving, creativity and lateral thinking. Many learners with dyslexia learn successfully without any additional support.

If you do require additional support this could include:

  • Confidential enquiry service
  • Screening assessments to identify learning support needs
  • One to one support teaching by specialist tutors in dyslexia and dysphasia
  • Study skills group support sessions
  • Training in specialist software
  • Access arrangements and adjustments for exams
  • Support for self-esteem issues and referral to the College counselling team
  • Referral to specialist optometrists
  • Support to arrange assessments for students entering higher education
  • Guidance for course tutors and staff development about including learners with dyslexia
  • liaison with external agencies.

If you would like to discuss how we can assist your learning please call: 0151 252 3353.
