We offer people a wide range of support and specialist teaching for learners with a visual impairment. A learner can enrol on any of the courses offered if they meet the entry criteria. Every effort will be made to provide appropriate support for mainstream learners.

We also offer specialist classes in braille, information technology, study skills and fitness and leisure. The specialist classes are also open to sighted learners who have an interest in the area of visual impairment.

Support could include:

  • Confidential enquiry service
  • Assessments to identify learning support needs
  • One to one in class support for note-taking, reading etc
  • Learning materials in large print, braille or electronic formats
  • Provision of specialist equipment
  • Training in specialist software and equipment
  • Access arrangements and adjustments for exams
  • Guidance to course tutors and staff development about including learners with a visual impairment
  • Liaison with external agencies
