Education Maintenance Allowance

What is it?
EMA is a weekly payment of £10, £20 or £30 depending on household income, paid
if you stay in learning or training after you reach school leaving age. You may
also receive bonuses if you stay in your programme of learning and continue to make
good progress.
You can claim for 2-3 years depending on the length of your course. You will
only be paid if you attend your classes and show commitment*.
You can claim EMA if:
- You are 16-19 years old and your household income does not exceed
£30,810
- You are studying in: School sixth form, College, Work based Learning –
taking an e2e or programme led apprenticeship
