The A Level English Literature and English Language combined course is divided into three parts:

Voices in Speech and Writing

Provides opportunities for you to consider how authors create voice, by focusing on the American drama, ‘All My Sons’, by Arthur Miller, as well as an anthology of non-literary and digital extracts.

Varieties in Language and Literature

Explores ‘Wide Sargasso Sea’ by Jean Rhys and a collection of poems by Christina Rossetti, looking at how these authors present the idea of ‘ Crossing Boundaries’.

Investigating and Creating Texts

Lets you create a portfolio of writing, inspired by fiction and non-fiction you have read. You will produce one fictional and one factual work, in addition to a critical commentary, which evaluates your choices.

You will be assessed at the end of your course, when you will take two external examinations, each one lasting 2 1/2 hours. You will also submit a writing portfolio of 2,500-3,250 words.
