  • Applying for A Levels: When you complete your application form, you can apply for just one subject, and add the other subjects into the 'Career Path' section. For example, complete the application for Psychology A Level, and type 'Sociology A Level and English A Level' in the 'Career Path' box. You do not need to complete multiple applications for each subject. If we need more information, we will contact you.

What to expect from the course

This subject is a general programme which covers all the core elements of Art & Design. It is designed to allow maximum opportunity to explore your chosen themes. Good working methods are encouraged to enable you to work in a professional and creative way.
Drawing is seen as a fundamental part of the course as is critical studies. We make full use of the Museums and Art Galleries on Merseyside to increase greater knowledge and understanding of the subject. The AS and A2 is studied over 1 year on a part time basis. The course is fine art endorsed which means students will produce work that is within the fine art specialist area which includes drawing and painting.
For 16-18 year old (daytime) students, this A Level will be one of four A Levels you choose to make up a full time programme of study. You will study for a total of 18 hours per week plus one hour per week tutorial.
Students who successfully complete AS with grades A-C will be able to apply for the second year, A2 element of the programme.
To gain a full A2 qualification in Art and Design, students must undertake the same endorsement at both AS and A2.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

At the end of the course students will be encouraged to progress to higher level courses leading to a range of opportunities for successful careers in Art & Design. Students who study this subject also study a range of other academic AS subjects.

Entry Requirements

A Level Entry Requirements for 16-18s:
The most important entry requirement is that you are committed and determined to do well
You need to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with at least 2 at Grade 5. These must include Maths and English.
To study this particular A level you need to achieve Grade 6 in GCSE Art, or if  not studied your offer will be subject to interview and portfolio

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

24 years old or over or 19-23 and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course, fees are payable by all students unless sponsored by an employer.

Fee for24/25 is 500.00
In future years this fee may be subject to change.
