The BTEC HNC in Construction and The Built Environment is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. It provides a wide-ranging study of the construction and the built environment sector and is designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in construction and the built environment. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of the construction and the built environment sector, the course gives students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training.

At Level 4 students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the construction and the built environment sector through the study of four core units, three specialist units and one optional unit (8 units in total).

The course features an individual project set by Pearson that gives students the opportunity to define, plan, undertake a project, and develop the critical skills needed for professional construction industry.

Skills and Knowledge Developed:

Students need both relevant qualifications and employability skills to enhance their career prospects and contribute to their personal development. Pearson BTEC Higher National Construction and The Built Environment qualifications embed the development of key skills throughout the programme; attributes and strengths required by 21st century employers.

The course develops and expands on work covered during the L3 programme. This includes a mixture of core subjects and specialist subjects developing technical, management and interpersonal skills.
