Course Details

What to expect from the course

This one year technical course is part of the College's Cadetship programme. It combines 3 days of College based classroom learning with a guaranteed 2 days of mandatory and meaningful work experience in the care sector.

All Cadet Learners are provided with a Uniform and Pin Badge to wear both in College and when on work experience. If you are successful on the course, we will guarantee you a job interview at the end of the course.

The content of the qualification will cover areas such as:

• Working in health care and social care
• Working with babies, children, young people and families in care and education.
• Values beliefs and behaviours for working in healthcare, care and childcare settings.
• Communication
• Working safely in the environment
• Safeguarding and protecting vulnerable people.

The course will be a mixture of classroom based activity delivered by industry experts, and work experience. The work experience will give you the opportunity to put the skills you have learnt into practice.

As part of this study programme, if you have not achieved a grade 4 in English or Maths, you'll be required to study these subjects alongside your main course.

Academy Bakery

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

After completing your qualification, you will be qualified to work in a number of settings, such as: Healthcare assistant, Care assistant or Childcare worker/assistant.

It will also give you progression to the Level 3 Technical Certificate in Health and Social Care and eventually on to Higher Education to study Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work and other allied health professions.

Entry Requirements

You will be required to have or successfully complete:
3 GCSE's at grade 3 or D, inclusive of Maths and English.

This course has a limited number of spaces and demand is high.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.
