You will be learning in our our realistic working environment were you will be producing bakery products for the needs of local businesses, this gives you a real insight into how what your doing in college supports the needs of local industry as the products your making have to be amazing to generate the sales required by the business.

'Bake' yourself happy At The Very First Established Bakery and Cake Decorating College in The North West and North Wales.

This course is for anyone who may want a career in the Baking/ Cake Decoration Industry, with emphasis on setting up your own business or to improve you home baking and cake decorating skills whilst gaining an industry and worldwide recognised Qualification from Cake Decoration and Bakery Lecturers with over 175 years combined experience from one of the north wests oldest and leading Bakery Colleges.

As a student on this course, you'll specialise in either the pure Bakery route or the pure Cake Decoration route, practicing advanced skills and being original and innovative in the design of their own product specialisms

The course looks in depth at the theory of raw materials and processes used in the bakery in addition to developing enterprising business skills.

Students can choose one of the following learning pathways:

1. Cake making/cake decoration/raw materials/processes/starting a business
2. Bread and fermented goods/cake making/raw materials/processes/starting a business
3. Bread and fermented goods/cake making/cake decoration/raw materials/processes/starting a business
This course gives students the opportunity to learn and practice skills in the following areas:
- Advanced craft in bread, pastries and fermented goods sour doughs
- Advanced craft in cake and sponge goods
- Advanced craft in cake decoration and design

Please note there are the following additional costs for this course:
1. Dummy cakes
2. Art materials – A3 pad/pencils/poster paints/paint brushes
3. Membership of ABST (bakery students' society) £15 per annum

Academy Bakery

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Entry Requirements

The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry onto the course.

A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 (previously C) or above including Maths and English Language OR a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English Language and relevant subject qualification OR a minimum of Level 2 course in your chosen subject at merit or above and English Language and Maths at Level 2.

An enthusiasm and passion to succeed and develop yourself with great attendance will be vital to you achieving success on this course.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19 or over and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

19 years old or over and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course.
