A Level

Biology

Biology is a great choice of subject for people who want a career in health and Clinical professions, such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, physiotherapy, pharmacy, optometry, nursing, zoology, marine biology or Plant science

The biology department at The City of Liverpool College is a group of vibrant, passionate (we all love Biology!) and experienced teachers. With half having worked in industry or health in previous lives.

The teaching that takes place in the department is stimulating and challenging with a good dose of fun too! Staff prepare their own workbooks and hand-outs, which are not only specific to meet the assessment objectives of the exam boards, but include materials designed to stretch you by introducing you to processes (industrial/disease) that go beyond your specification

There are benefits to studying Chemistry or maths alongside Biology. You’ll find that the subjects complement one another, with a strong foundation in chemistry and maths becoming even more important if you intend to study biology at university. In some cases, A-level Chemistry is one of the entry requirements for a degree in biomedical sciences.

If you want a career in Biology, you should read scientific magazines (if you are not already doing so!) New Scientist and Scientific American are both excellent, covering all that’s new in science careers. If you are thinking of health professions then it is very important that you engage in voluntary work in your local community. This can be undertaken via Youth Action. http://www.youthaction.org.uk/
