UAL Level 1 Diploma

The UAL Level 1 Diploma in Art & Design provides a great way to start your career. This is a broad and exciting programme in which you will develop a wide range of skillls in Art and Design, as well as qualifications in English, maths and IT. This course will set you up really well with the skills and confidence to progress in college or to work towards a creative or design career which provide an extensive range of opportunities.

The course offers you an introduction to traditional Art and Design skills such as painting and drawing, with the chance to try out many other techniques across several different projects.

The course includes:

• Painting

• Drawing with pencils and pastels

• Printing

• Design crafts such as textiles, printing, ceramics, batik and 3D design

• Graphic Design and digital art techniques

• Self assessment

• Career planning and opportunities to meet up with different organisations linked to artistic and design careers.

This course caters for 16-18's and as part of the study programme you will be expected to study English, Maths, ICT and complete EEP hours and a work placement.

If you do not have GCSE English & Maths at grade 4/C or above you will be expected to study them along side this course.

All of our Study Programmes are designed to help you to develop your skills and widen your college experience.

What you should expect from your Study Programme:

  • A substantial qualification e.g. GCSE, A level or vocational equivalent
  • Meaningful work experience
  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.
