Business, BTEC Level 1/Level

2 First Diploma

BTECs have a reputation as an effective qualification with a proven track record in improving motivation and achievement among young learners, whilst providing progression routes to the next stage of education or into employment.

BTECs are vocationally related qualifications, where you develop knowledge and understanding by applying your learning and skills in a work-related context. You will develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace such as team working, working from a prescribed brief, working to deadlines, presenting information effectively, accurately completing administrative tasks and processes and problem solving.

Students will study 6 core units: Enterprise, finance, brand promotion, marketing, business planning and project management. In addition, students will be offered a range of additional subjects that the teaching team feel will enhance their academic and occupational progress. Students will be expected to work hard and complete assignments on schedule and to be motivated and fully participate in activities. Students are expected to have 98% punctuality and 90% attendance throughout the duration of the course. All students will be on a six week trial to ensure that they are on the correct course and to allow for transfers to take place should students be on the wrong course.

There will be significant elements of self-study on the course and students will have access to weekly curriculum workshops where they can obtain advice and guidance from subject tutors to enable them to complete the self-study elements of their course.

This course is different to other similar courses because the students are taught by highly experienced subject specialists who have a proven record in providing support, challenges and motivation to students. The course will develop the student's academic abilities and in addition provide opportunities for students to develop skills that will make them more attractive to employers.

Students will leave the course as much more confident and competent individuals because they will have developed core academic skills, enhance the softer skills that are required by employers, developed social skills and become more self-confident. The combination of these benefits means that the students will be extremely well prepared for further study, an apprenticeship or employment. Students will be invited to attend trips or take part in activities that will enable them to understand how their studies link with the world of business. In the last year, students have visited Everton Football Club, Range Rover, Chester Zoo, watched theatre performances, participated in national and regional debates, supported homeless and elderly people and created fund raising events for the Roy Castle Foundation. There may also be opportunities for students to participate in work experience opportunities with local employers.

In addition to their business students, students will also study GCSE English and Mathematics to ensure that they are able to improve their grades.
