Art & Design with specialist pathways

Advanced Learning Loan Eligible

The UAL Level 3 is an exciting programme that provides the opportunity to creatively explore a range of art and design disciplines including 3D design, Fine Art, crafts, graphics, sculpture, multimedia, painting, printmaking and installation.

The programmes consist of a number of core specialist units and which are integrated into assignment briefs throughout each years, during which time you will also experiment with a wide range of art and design materials, techniques and processes.

In the first year you will develop your knowledge, understanding and technical ability in the key underpinning areas of art and design practice such as drawing, historical and contextual studies and the design process - from concept through to the realisation of your ideas.

Art & Design in year 1 you may progress to apply this knowledge and understanding to explore further your preferred specialist subject area, such as: Fine Art, painting, sculpture, installation, graphic design, graphic illustration, animation, photography, interior design, 3D design and Craft Extended Diploma.

You will also have the opportunity for a work placement and producing a freelance portfolio.

Successful completion will provide you with necessary skills to develop careers in Art and Design and its related industries or as a platform for application to higher education.

On successful completion of year 2 you will gain a UAL Level 3 Extended diploma in Art & Design.

This course is Advanced Learning Loan eligible, which can fully cover the course fee.

All of our Study Programmes are designed to help you to develop your skills and widen your college experience.

What you should expect from your Study Programme:

  • A substantial qualification e.g. GCSE, A level or vocational equivalent
  • Meaningful work experience
  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.
