Health and Social Care BTEC L3 Ext Dip

Advanced Learning Loan Eligible

This course has been developed for 16-18 year olds and consists of 2 qualifications. The BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma is for one year. Following successful completion of the first year there will be an opportunity to progress on to the Extended Diploma. You may wish to complete this qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or progress into higher education, following completion of the top up Extended Diploma. BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas attract UCAS points that equate to 3 A levels, carrying a maximum of 360 UCAS points.

You will study a number of core units including:

• Communication

• Diversity

• Psychology

• Sociology, and physiology as well as a wide range of specialist units.

Students on the course are expected to find a placement in the sector to gain work experience. A key feature is also the opportunity throughout the programme for students to produce a personal and professional development portfolio which links many aspects of their programme, as well as experiences outside the programme.

What you should expect from your Study Programme:

  • Meaningful work experience
  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.

Learner, Emma Shuker joined The City of Liverpool College on a Level 1 Health and Social Care course – after her school told her not to go to college because she wouldn’t succeed. Emma worked hard and utilised all the support her tutors gave her as she continued to progress to Level 2 and then Level 3. This year her tutors are proud to see Emma graduate from Edge Hill University with a BA in Health Studies, and wish her all the best in her career.
