Vacancy Description:

We are looking to recruit a junior chef/multi-skilled hospitality apprentice for our popular pub and eating house in the Liverpool business district. In addition to studying for an apprenticeship with City of Liverpool College in Food Preparation we will provide you with an array of experience to help you develop into a valued member of our team.


Main Duties and Responsibilities


We have a vacancy for an outgoing, apprentice chef at our popular pub and eating house in the heart of the Liverpool business district. The main duties and responsibilities for role will be to:

  • Maintain health, hygiene and safety when storing and preparing food
  • Prepare basic vegetable dishes
  • Prepare basic meat and poultry dishes
  • Prepare pasta dishes
  • Prepare basic soups
  • Prepare basic fish dishes
  • Set up and close kitchen
  • Take directions and guidance from supervisors and managers.
  • The role will be multi-functional, so whilst you will focus on food preparation, as part of a team you will also be expected to be flexible and become involved in customer service functions also.



Skills Required

  • Previous skills in food preparation ideally in a work environment
  • Able to work in a food preparation environment


Qualifications required

Ideally a Level 1 catering/hospitality qualification and a minimum of Entry Level 3 in Maths and English but a real passion and interest in cooking is the key to this role.

Training to be Provided

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Hospitality Services (Food Preparation) – one day per week at Duke Street site in Liverpool city centre plus Functional Skills in English and Maths if required


Reality Check

The catering world involves long hours and hard work. You will be rewarded for your commitment, energy and motivation.

Able to access the pub as work hours can finish as late and 10pm some days.

A college chef uniform will need to be acquired.

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
