Barbering VRQ Level

2 Diploma

The course is designed for people working in a barber’s at least two days a week who want to have a recognised qualification which may lead to further job opportunities in the barbering industry. Applicants must have a mature attitude and be able to self study. You will complete units in:

• Working in the hair industry.

• Follow health and safety practice in the salon

• Client consultation for hair services.

• Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp

• Promote products and services to clients in a salon

• Cut men’s hair

• Cut facial hair

• Colour and lighten hair

• Styling men’s hair

• Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector

• Scalp massage

It will be necessary for you at times to provide your own models. In addition you will need to compile a portfolio of evidence. The portfolio supports your practical expertise and shows that you understand the theoretical concepts behind the practical tasks that you are able to carry out. You will also have the opportunity to gather evidence for your portfolio from your work days in the salon.

  • A substantial qualification e.g. GCSE, A level or vocational equivalent
  • Meaningful work experience
  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.
