Welcome to Teacher Education at The City of Liverpool College!

The City of Liverpool College has a long history of delivering Teacher Education courses to those teaching, training and tutoring post-14 students.

We offer the following programmes for people looking to begin or develop their career as a teacher or trainer in further education colleges, adult education, and a wide range of other training and educational sectors.

Teacher Education Courses

PGCE/PGDE/Cert Ed - Full-time:

-  One year, full-time

-  Teaching practice placement: 100 hours per year

-  £7,725

-  Option for graduates to undertake up to 120 Master’s level credits

PGCE/PGDE/Cert Ed - Part-time:

-  Two years, part-time

-  One evening or day per week

-  Teaching or training for 50 hours per year

-  £3,862 per year

-  Option for graduates to undertake up to 120 Master’s level credits

BA (Hons) Education and Professional Development - Part-time:

-  Good progression route from level 5 CertEd/DTTLS

-  Day school at the University of Huddersfield

-  Tutorials at The City of Liverpool College

-  Online learning and networking

-  £4,386 per year

Level 3 Award in Education and Training:

-  6-weeks course

-  Introduction to teaching, learning and assessment

-  Students can progress to CertEd/PGCE

Staff Profiles:

Katherine Davey - Programme Leader for Teacher Education

Katherine has over eight years’ experience in teaching and training in a range of contexts in the UK and abroad, including schools, sixth forms and technical colleges. She previously led the north-west provision of a mentoring charity for 16-19 year olds and worked on educational projects with Liverpool football club. In addition to holding a Master’s degree in Modern Languages, Katherine holds a Master’s in Education and is currently undertaking a part-time Doctorate in Education with the University of Huddersfield. Katherine’s research interests focus on the interaction of education with social class, education and gender, educational inequality in urban contexts and teacher education in FE.

Rajiv Khosla - Advanced Lecturer

Rajiv Khosla has been teaching in Further Education for over 15 years. Rajiv has had experience of teaching adult numeracy and managing Skills for Life provision for an apprenticeship provider and has been teaching on teacher education programmes at The City of Liverpool College for over 10 years. He is also an Advanced Lecturer in the College, responsible for designing and delivering CPD for colleagues. Rajiv has also trained as an Additional Inspector and undertaken inspection work with Ofsted, inspecting numeracy provision. His current research interests are examining the impact of performance management systems on teachers, with a particular emphasis on alternative methods of teacher observations. Rajiv has recently completed a MA in Advanced Educational Practice (Leadership and Management).

Nina Doran - Lecturer in Teacher Education

Nina is currently studying towards an MA in Advanced Educational Practice at Liverpool John Moores University. She holds a BA (hons) in Politics and Government 2:1 from the City of London Polytechnic and a PGCE (post-16) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management and Leadership Skills from Liverpool John Moores University. Nina’s main teaching experience is in English and also includes HND Public Administration, Computers, Women’s Studies, Literature and Creative Writing, Sociology, and Communications. Nina has coordinated outreach community learning provision in South Liverpool and North Liverpool and worked with community organisations planning for adult learning. She is also a trustee of a domestic abuse charity in South Liverpool and is a trained Equality rep for UCU. Nina’s research interests include critical thinking, feedback, adult education, and the marketisation of FE and HE.

College is much more flexible which suited me well. It also had a wider range of courses available to study than my school sixth form.

Liam Roberts successfully achieved A*, A, A Liam progressed onto the University of Greenwich.
