Bistro Qui Limited is a family of restaurants based in Liverpool city centre, with head office located on the historic Rodney Street. The company was first established in 2003, operated by Mark Friend and Stephen Slater. We now own and run the following establishments: Bistro Pierre, Bistro Jacques, Bistro Franc, The Hub, Button Street Smokehouse, ChiCha, The Refinery. 


Vacancy Description:

We are looking to recruit 7 apprentice chefs who are passionate about a career in the industry to join our team for our popular restaurants in the Bistro Qui group in Liverpool city centre. Working with our head chef and his team we need an apprentice chef to help prepare and cook our varied menu that uses local fresh ingredients.

You will gain great experience here whilst also attending The City of Liverpool College as part of an apprenticeship programme.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

We have vacancies for seven apprentice chefs at our chain of restaurants in Liverpool city centre . We use locally sourced, fresh ingredients and the main duties and responsibilities for our apprentice commis chefs are:

  • Maintain health, hygiene and safety when storing and preparing food

  • Prepare basic vegetable dishes

  • Prepare basic meat and poultry dishes

  • Prepare pasta dishes

  • Prepare basic soups

  • Prepare basic fish dishes

  • Prepare different desserts

  • Set up and close kitchen

  • Take directions and guidance from supervisors and managers.

  • Help set up and close down the kitchens


Skills Required

  • Previous skills in food preparation ideally in a work environment
  • Able to work in a food preparation environment


Qualifications required

Ideally a Level 1 catering/hospitality qualification and a minimum of Entry Level 3 in Maths and English but a real passion and interest in cooking is the key to this role.

Training to be Provided

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Hospitality Services (Food Preparation) – one day per week at Duke Street site in Liverpool


Reality Check

The catering world involves long hours and hard work. You will be rewarded for your commitment, energy and motivation. There are full time roles available following completion of your apprenticeship.

Work hours can be as late and 10pm some days and can start as early as 9am if required.

A college chef uniform will need to be acquired.

Working in an intimate kitchen in close proximity with other chefs, working under pressure, and long days standing.


Things to be Considered

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
