Aviation Operations Level 3

This qualification provides learners with the underpinning skills, knowledge and understanding in health and safety and security required to work in an aviation environment. This qualification has been developed in conjunction with employers to meet industry needs.

The college is located in the heart of the city of Liverpool with excellent transport connections. There is easy access to Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the team have worked in industry.

Skills and Knowledge Developed:

Year 1

Health and safety in the aviation industry, security in the aviation industry, aircraft dispatch, aviation geography, marketing, customer service. The qualification has been designed together with employers and leads either to progression onto the second year Extended Diploma in Aviation of into employment within the aviation industry. The 90 Credit Diploma carries the equivalent of 1.5 GCSE A-level and many completing the Extended Diploma progress onto higher education.

Year 2

Health and safety in the aviation industry, security in the aviation industry, handling air passengers, aviation meteorology for ground staff, aircraft dispatch, team leadership, customer service.

All of our Study Programmes are designed to help you to develop your skills and widen your college experience.

What you should expect from your Study Programme:

  • A substantial qualification e.g. GCSE, A level or vocational equivalent
  • Meaningful work experience
  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.

What the course leads to

This course can lead to employment in many roles at an airport including air traffic control, ground handling and security. It is also possible to progress onto the Foundation Degree in Tourism & Leisure or another university course.
