About our Course

This course offers you the opportunity to take the first steps in becoming a dance professional. This course is best for those who want a practical approach to learning. The main focus of the course is the practical skills of the dancer. Through regular classes, workshops and performances you will develop your skills while exploring a range of dance styles including Street, Jazz Contemporary and Ballet. You will also be given opportunities to include your own choreography into performance projects. You will get to take part in a minimum of two performances a year in addition to flash mobs and performances at award ceremonies. Alongside your practical classes you will take part in theory classes that will build on your learning where you will look at the history of dance and how a theatre comes to life during a performance.

In addition to you dance classes you will study Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths qualifications, if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade C.

This course will enable you to progress to a higher level qualification such as the BTEC 90 Credit Diploma or Extended Diploma.

You will study a mix of practical and theoretical units. Working in the Performing Arts Industry, Professional Development in the Performing Arts Industry, Performing Arts Production Process, Contemporary Dance, Performing Dance, Jazz Dance, Ballet, Urban Dance and Performance.

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.
