Delifonseca is a small independent company based in Liverpool that’s truly passionate about all things food related. It operates two sites, Fonseca’s Stanley St in the centre of town and Delifonseca Dockside which is a mile south of the city centre.

The Dockside branch is a real foodie ‘all-rounder’ operating both a restaurant and a licensed retail food operation, along with a concession by renowned Edge & Son butchers, who specialise in local, rare, native breeds.In addition to our on-site facilities we offer a wide range of outside catering options both for corporate or private customers.


Vacancy Description

We are recruiting 2 apprentices in food service for our popular restaurant/foodhall in Brunswick, Liverpool. This is an excellent opportunity to develop all-round service skills with a recognised company and the prospect of a future full-time role.

We are looking to recruit confident and personable individuals as front-of-house, food service apprentices at our restaurant and delicatessen in the Brunswick dock area of Liverpool. You must have a real interest in food to work here.

You would prepare tables, greet customers, take orders, advise on menu choices, serve meals and deal with payments. You would also be on hand to answer any questions and make sure that customers enjoy their experience.

You do not need any particular qualifications to start in this job but you will need to be a good team-worker and have excellent customer service skills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Waiting staff serve customers by taking orders, serving food and preparing tables. An important part of the work is to make customers feel welcome and comfortable during their meal.

As a waiter or waitress, your main duties would include:

  • greeting customers as they arrive and showing them to their table

  • giving out menus and taking orders for food and drink

  • familiarizing yourself with the dishes we serve to advise customers

  • serving food and drinks

  • dealing with bill payments

  • making sure tables are clean and tidy


Skills Required

  • Customer service experience and skills
  • Working in a food service environment


Personal Qualities of Candidate

  • Bags of personality
  • Great with people
  • Able to keep calm and positive in a pressured environment



 None – but GCSEs grades A-C or 4-9 would be an advantage


Training to be provided

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Hospitality Services (Food Service) – one day per week at Duke Street site in Liverpool city centre plus Functional Skills in English and Maths if required


Working Week

At least 30 hours – although more could probably be available.

We operate a shift system Mon-Sun, with the early shifts starting at 7am (finishing between 3pm-5pm) and the late shifts (various start times) finishing by approximately 10-11pm.

You will be expected to attend college 1 day per week within your working week.


Expected Duration

12 months



Primarily Delifonseca Dockside, Brunswick Way, Liverpool, Merseyside L3 4BN but occasionally the restaurant in Stanley Street, L1 6AH or on outside catering events.


Future Prospects

The prospect of a full-time role is here on successful completion of your apprenticeship programme.


Other Important Information

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.

Able to access restaurant as shifts can finish around 10-11pm
