Professional Bakery and Cake Decoration,

Level 2 Diploma

Bake yourself happy! The is a very comprehensive course for people who may want a career in the baking or celebration cake industry or a formal qualification. It involves working as part of a team in the college commercial bakery producing bread, pastries, cakes and celebration cakes for customers. Students will also work as an individual on practising skills and being innovative in design of their own products. The course also looks at the theory of raw materials and processes used in the bakery and also business skills. This course is also suitable for anyone who may wish to improve their home baking and cake decorating skills.

Students aged 16-18 will form a study programme which will also include maths and English, depending on GCSE results the study programme could include either functional skills (maths & English) or GCSE (maths & English) and any underpinning knowledge required for the qualification.

This course gives students the opportunity to learn and practise skills in the following areas:

• Bread and fermented goods

• Cake and sponge goods

• Cake decoration and design

Please note there will be a requirement to purchase uniform and kit which will be further explained at interview.

  • Help to achieve GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C if you do not already have them
  • Practical activities that help your personal development including study skills, enrichment activities, employability training and classes in personal and social skills to get you ready for further education or employment.
  • Support to enable you to progress to the next level of study or employment

English and Maths

English and Maths skills are vital for employment and to secure a place on courses at a higher level, including university.

We have a team of tutors who will work with you to achieve these essential qualifications and enable you to apply these skills in your day to day activities and work.

Since September 2013 any young person who does not achieve their GCSE in English language and mathematics at grade C or above will have to continue their studies at college. Students who have a grade D in either subject must study these subjects at GCSE level.
