Our recently opened coffee shop in Aigburth serves hot drink and food with a lovely selection of freshly baked goods including cupcakes, rocky road tiffin, fresh pastries and chocolate brownies.

Also on the menu are homemade sandwiches, salads and snacks plus hearty soups.

The cafe retains the period features of the much-loved landmark building, including black and white marble floors and original panelling, and has been designed with Scandinavian influences.

Vacancy Description

We are looking to recruit a personable individual as a front-of-house, food & drink service apprentice at our popular coffee shop  in Aigburth. You must have a real interest in serving food & drink  and learning as you will be attending The City of Liverpool College one day per week (term time only) as part of the apprenticeship. You will need a flexible approach as there may be times when you would be required to assist with some basic food preparation (sandwiches, etc) but essentially the job is about serving customers.

You would serve customers over the counter and at tables.

This role will provide you with an excellent opportunity to develop your all-round service skills with a recognised local establishment with the prospect of a full-time role on successful completion of the apprenticeship.

You do not need any particular qualifications to start in this job but you will need to be a good team-worker and have excellent customer service skills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • greeting customers as they arrive

  • taking orders for food and drink

  • serving customers using a till system

  • serving bakery and delicatessen food items

  • making sure the premises are clean and tidy.

Skills Required

  • Customer service skills

  • Positive attitude

  • Ideally previous experience of working in a food service environment will help but is not essential.

Personal Qualities of Candidate

  • Bags of personality
  • Great with people
  • Able to keep calm and positive in a pressured environment

Qualifications required

Ideally GCSEs in English and Maths grades A-C but these are not essential. A real interest in food preparation /customer service and a commitment to studies is the key to achieving this apprenticeship.

 

Working Week:

At least 30 hours (including 7 hours ay college)

Shifts will be between 8.00am-5.30pm 7 days per week.

 

Training to be provided

NVQ Level 2 in – Hospitality Services: Food Preparation one day per week at Duke Street site in Liverpool city centre plus Functional Skills Level 1  in English and Maths if required

 

Expected Duration

12-15 months

Reality Check:

Willingness to help with food preparation and keep the premises clean and tidy therefore some basic cleaning duties are required.

 

Future Prospects:

The prospect of a full-time role is here on successful completion of your apprenticeship programme

 

Other Important Information

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the Government for non-levy paying employers. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
