Student achieves top A-level grades despite starting course six months in

A City of Liverpool College student achieved top A-level grades today despite joining the college six months in from the start of the programme.

Seventeen-year-old City6 student Mahyar Kolivand achieved three A*s including maths and an A in an extended project.

Mahyar, who moved to Liverpool from Malaysia, said: “Lots of places told me I had the GCSE grades required but would have to wait a year.

“My College tutors were against it at first as I'd missed so much and there were whole books that the rest of the class had already covered.”

Despite reservations Mahyar was accepted by the College and was determined to achieve. His commitment was such that he spent every evening and weekend studying and didn’t leave the house for two weeks before his exams so he could revise round the clock.

The teenager has nothing but praise for the college and the teachers who helped him to succeed.

After another year at the College, Mahyar is one step closer to his dream of becoming a doctor and hopes to study medicine at Oxford University.
