Working week – Shifts TBC by employer. Total hours per week: 35.00

Weekly wage £129.50

Expected apprenticeship duration 15 months


Yew Tree Coffee Barn provides quality food in a relaxing atmosphere whilst offering views of the greenbelt countryside. Enjoy a day out whatever the weather, sit back with a hot drink in front of roaring log fire or relax outside watching the hens and sheep roam whilst eating ice-cream. All the ingredients used in the menu are available to buy from the farm shop and we are more than happy to share recipe suggestions.

Working at this popular coffee barn in Halewood in a pretty rural setting, Yew Tree Coffee Barn  are seeking a keen and eager apprentice to help prepare their range of breakfast, lunch and dishes. In combination with us The City of Liverpool College we will help you develop your knowledge of food preparation and cooking through an apprenticeship programme in Food Preparation/cooking.

The main duties for the role will be to:

  • Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
  • Give customers a positive impression of self and our business
  • Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
  • Prepare vegetables for dishes
  • Make hot and cold sandwiches
  • Prepare meat dishes
  • Prepare soups
  • Prepare sauces
  • Knowledge of ingredients in our dishes
  • Preparation and clearing of service areas
  • To be involved in team discussions and to bring ideas for improving business/services
  • To maintain a flexible approach to work and prioritise

  • Able to demonstrate previous skills in food preparation, through the workplace or voluntary

Desired qualifications

  • Ideally a Level 1 catering/hospitality qualification and a minimum of Entry Level 3 or equivalent in maths and English but a real passion and interest in cooking/food preparation is the key to this role

Future prospects

  • The prospect of a full-time role is here on successful completion of your apprenticeship programme

Things to consider

Reality Check: Able to access employer premises in Halewood, this is a rural location and you need to ensure you are able to travel to and from work.

Training to be provided

  • NVQ Level 2 in Hospitality Services
  • Food Preparation one day per week at Duke Street site in Liverpool city centre
  • Functional Skills Level 1  in English and maths if required
