The UAL Level 3 is an exciting programme which provides students with the opportunity to develop skills achieved at level 2 and GCSE with a view to progression on to University or employment in the Creative industries.
Year One: The Diploma consists of one unit called 'Diagnostic Investigation in Art & Design' which develop the individual's practical skills base whilst underpinning their creativity with professional qualities required. These include exploration of the design process, a knowledge of art history, critical thinking and work experience. Students will demonstrate the culmination of their learning by responding to a creative brief, which is set and marked by UAL Awarding Body.
Specialist disciplines covered in the first year include fine art painting and sculpture, graphic illustration, photography, textiles, printmaking, and 3D design. The Diploma is designed to help students be experimental and to support them in choosing a direction on which to focus in the second year Extended Diploma.
Year Two: Extended Diploma is where learners will develop a more individual portfolio based on their chosen progression route. Application to university and work placements are supported through website building, producing a freelance portfolio, visits to universities and by developing networks in local industries.
This course provides students with an understanding of a range of art and design disciplines making use of a variety of specialist workshops. Students have the opportunity to work on live project briefs and exhibit their work at external venues as part of our end of year shows.
