Business, Marketing and Finance — Level 3 (October Start)

Course information

Within this course you will study 3 qualifications - L3 Certificate in Business, LIBF Certificate in Financial Studies, and an Extended Project Qualification based on Marketing.

L3 Certificate in Business is made up of three units
The units cover:
• The Business Environment
• Introduction to Marketing
• Business Resources

Certificate in Financial Studies is a comprehensive introduction to personal finance. It develops the knowledge and skills required for young people to make informed financial decisions by introducing them to the risks and challenges involved in personal finance and to tools for effective planning. Through developing core skills of critical analysis and evaluation, synthesis, and written communication, (CEFS) provides a foundation for further study in business and finance-related disciplines, as well as a wide range of other fields.

Key content areas
• importance of financial capability for immediate, short-term, medium-term, and long-term financial needs.
• financial services and products, including sources of help and advice.
• borrowing, budgeting, financial planning and cash flow.
• the impact of external influences at different stages in the personal life cycle; and
• risk and reward in managing personal finance.

EPQ is a qualification designed to extend your skills beyond Level 3. It allows for more depth, greater breadth and a wider range of exploration, and will be focused within the area of marketing. It was written with universities to ensure students started in higher education with essential skills. For students who are interested in or require experience in research and writing, this is an excellent course to demonstrate planning, data analysis and working to a brief.

There are various trips and activities throughout the programme allowing you to use real experiences to frame your work. As part of the course you will undertake a week’s work experience in a business setting, take part in mock job interviews and CV preparation & also work in a team to organise a college event.

Due the practical nature will have a wide range of future opportunities available to you. You could choose to go on to university to study a wide variety of related topics such as Business, Law or Accountancy, or alternatively you could enter the world of work and specialise in Marketing, Finance, Sales and Personnel sectors. There are also opportunities to enter the world of work via an apprenticeship scheme with the college having links to many local employers.

Our entry requirements are a minimum of 5x Grade C/Level 4 including either Maths or English Language at Level 4 or above

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
