The Level 4 BTEC Higher National Certificate in Construction and The Built Environment (Building Services) offers students a broad introduction to the subject area via a mandatory core of learning, as well as units within general ‘pathways’, whilst allowing for the acquisition of skills and experience through the selection of a further (Level 4) unit across a range of occupational sectors. This effectively builds underpinning core skills, with general specialisation, preparing the student for further specialisation at Level 5. Students will gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in research, self-study, directed study and workplace scenarios.
The course is delivered through a blend of lectures, seminars, tutorials, independent study and industry guest speakers.
Students need both good qualifications and employability skills to enhance their career prospects and personal development. This course embeds the development of key skills throughout the programme, attributes and strengths required by twenty-first century employers.

The course prepares students for a Level 5 qualification within the Construction and the Built Environment sector, bringing their professional and academic knowledge up to the required level.
Students successfully completing the course can gain employment in construction consultancies and contracting companies. For example, building services engineers design the heating and cooling, ventilation systems to create a comfortable and safe design in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
College generic entry requirements apply to all HE programmes. For this particular programme, the following will apply:
• Level 3 qualification in Construction and the Built Environment (or a related subject).
• GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject; this profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades A* to C and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as maths and English
• Other related Level 3 qualifications
• An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
• Related work experience
• An international equivalent of the above.
Applicants should hold a total UCAS Tariff points score from relevant qualifications of at least 96 points.
