Course information
The course has been specifically designed to provide a range of skills in this specialist area. It is aimed at those working to expand their skills in theatre costume at the same time gaining a qualification at Level 3.
The course consists of costume design, script and character analysis, history of fashion, engaging the audience through design, interpretation of design, flat pattern cutting, drapery, underwear such as corsets, petticoats etc, outerwear, fittings and alterations, construction and finishing techniques, the construction of accessories, including masks and millinery (hat making). You will be expected to solve complex problems through the application of practical, theoretical and technical understanding.
Year 1 covers 8 units from the principles of performance to a collaborative performance project. Year 2 covers 4 units from developing production skills through to the extended project.
Live project briefs over the last few years have included producing costumes for The Alice Experience, Titanic the Musical, Croxteth Hall Victorian Christmas etc. Students have competed in competitions such as The Royal Opera House Design Challenge achieving high commendations and winning the prestigious award. .Students have also been successful in The Worshipful Company of Glovers student glove design competition.

Entry Requirements
5 GCSE qualifications at grade 4/C or a full level 2 Qualification at Merit grade or above. Please note that you must have achieved English and/or Maths at Grade 4/C or above in order to be accepted on this course.
