Course Details

  • For students interested in developing a career within Digital, Animation and Games Design.
  • Suitable for learners with previous qualifications (5 GCSEs C/4+) and a passion for Games Design and Animation.
  • Study at The City of Liverpool College’s £2.5m Digital Academy based in Myrtle Street.
  • 1 year course taught over 3 days per week.
  • Work with local and national employers such as the NHS, Laing O’Rourke, FireSprite and VizBox.

What to expect from the course

What does this qualification cover?
The Advanced Creator pathway is designed for students who have a strong knowledge within the Games Design and Animation industry and is designed for students who wish to develop and progress their skills and start a career in the rapidly growing digital world. This course is the perfect place to develop and progress your journey into Games Design and Animation as you will create and develop Games and Animation, work with motion-capture in our state-of-the-art suite, develop AR and VR solutions and work closely with local and national employers including FireSprite, Avalanche Studios and the NHS.

Who is it suitable for?
This pathway is suitable for students who have strong knowledge and existing experience within the Games Design and Animation industry.

How is it assessed?
You will be assessed through a range of methods including presentations, practical work and live
assessment opportunities

What will I learn?
You will learn software skills using Unreal Engine and Z Brush, how to create advanced solutions using Virtual and Augmented Reality and Animation using motion-capture.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Entry Requirements

In order to be accepted on the course you will need at least 5 relevant GCSEs A*-C / 4-9, including English and Maths or a Distinction in a relevant Level 2 such as a BTEC Diploma with English and Maths level 2 equivalencies.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

24 years old or over or 19-23 and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. In future years this fee may be subject to change.

Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
