The Diploma in Digital Games Design and Development is a fast past practical, work-related course. You will learn cutting edge skills by completing live projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. We work with a number of different employers such as the NHS, Firesprite and Laing O'Rourke. During the course, you will have the opportunity to complete work experience with an industry employer.
As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you will develop the skills you need to start a career. The course is the equivalent to three ‘A levels’ which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to seek employment or progress onto higher education.
What will I learn?
You will gain a valuable insight into the gaming industry, which will include: Professional Practice in the Games Industry
Games Platforms and Technologies
You will also be completing employment tests and building a professional portfolio. The course is delivered at out £2.5 million Digital Academy. The Digital Academy is equipped with the very latest technology and resources. From September 2020, the Digital Academy will also have an industry specific motion capture studio.
As part of the interview process we will be assessing your ability to represent your ideas visually. Please bring a portfolio or samples of your visual work. We are mainly looking for drawings/sketches, sketch books, photos, digital images, graphics, or a collection of design ideas. Try to avoid anime, Manga and Cartoons, we would much rather see observational drawing. Don’t worry if you haven’t got any of these at the moment; you still have time before the interview date to produce some examples of how your ideas might look visually. Please ensure you bring these with you as if you arrive without them it will mean we cannot offer you a place on the course.
This course is Advanced Learner Loan eligible, which can fully cover the course fee.
