The course is designed to enable students to pursue a career in the visual creative industries by developing the skills needed to succeed in a competitive environment.
Through project assignments all students will have the opportunity to explore a range of digital based design disciplines such as Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation/Motion Graphics, Digital Photography, Media Production and Visual Communication.
The aim of this course is to develop student’s skills and a knowledge base in the field of graphic design covering disciplines in print design, motion graphics and interactive media.
Each student’s individual portfolio will show samples of work, which explore digital and artistic techniques, methods and approaches. Students will also develop cultural awareness and a mature attitude towards a potential career in their chosen field.
The course covers core skills such as drawing, printmaking, creative thinking, design theory, research and communication skills. In addition specific software skills will be gained in industry-based packages such as Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere.
The majority of students who successfully complete the course progress to Higher Education. Alternatively students have gone straight into employment and have developed careers in the industry.
In addition the course has a commitment to develop the student experience by offering educational visits to local and national galleries and museums in addition to the Digital Festival OFFF. (http://offf.ws).

The course has always received strong positive feedback from past students. The majority of students who successfully complete the course go on to Higher Education courses at respected nationwide Universities and Colleges such as Leeds Met, Liverpool JMU, Westminster, UAL, Falmouth and Manchester Met.
Alternatively some students have gone straight into employment and have developed their own careers in the creative industry. For other students who would like to receive industry experience there is opportunities to develop apprenticeship program opportunities within the course.
The skills gained through out the course give the opportunity for students to begin a career path working in creative areas such as:
•Web Design/Interactive Design
•Animation/Motion Graphics/Post Production Media
•Multimedia production (Projection for visuals for events)
•Art practice (Digital, Projection, interactive, time based media)
5 GCSE qualifications at grade 4/C or a full level 2 Qualification at Merit grade or above. Please note that you must have achieved English and/or Maths at Grade 4/C or above in order to be accepted on this course.
Applicants may be awarded a conditional place as they await examination outcomes.
To demonstrate their level of ability, applicants are required to attend a short interview with a course tutor and present a selection of their work (drawing, artwork, designs, animations, media work, photography etc.) Emphasis is placed on the level of creativity and evidence of awareness of basic design process.
