What to expect from the course

This qualification meets the needs of students who want to work front of house within a hospitality environment who already have a level 1 or previous food service skills.

The qualification covers all aspects of food and beverage service. It will deliver the key skills required to ensure you will have a thorough understanding of the role and expectations that any future employer will expect of you.

Units that will be covered will include beverage product knowledge, cocktail making, and service of hot and cold beverages, Barista skills, handling payments and maintaining the payment point, principles of customer service in the hospitality industry.

The College will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training in our Academy restaurant.

Employers will provide demonstrations and talks about our industry and we will work with employers to provide learners work experience and valuable enrichment.

The college has experts teaching you front of house skills who are passionate about developing you to be the best. Whilst on the course you will participate in work experience and be offered a wide range of enrichment opportunities for you to develop your skills further, previously we have had Liverpool Football Club showcasing both their kitchen and front of house teams to our students, we also have a visitor economy week were our front of house students have visited establishments around the city and have had guided tours of the Pullman Hotel and Titanic Hotel, we have even participated in a hotel takeover. Work experience is a fundamental part of the course and these work place skills will develop your skills and give you the confidence and skills to gain employment.

Academy Bakery

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Entry Requirements

The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry onto the course.

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 3 (previously D) or above including Maths and English Language and relevant subject qualification OR a minimum of Level 1 course in your chosen subject at merit or above and English Language and Maths at Level 1.

An enthusiasm and passion to succeed and develop yourself with great attendance will be vital to you achieving success on this course.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
