Humanities — Access to HE

Course information

The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a level three qualification which prepares people without traditional qualifications for study at university. The course is structured to allow students to develop both knowledge of their subjects and the academic skills to progress to university.
This pathway is designed for students looking to go onto study a degree in a humanities field, such as history. The combination of subjects will allow you to build up extensive subject knowledge in the core subjects of; history, English literature and law. In addition to this you will be able to develop your academic and subject skills in a supportive environment, which will allow you to make the transition to degree level.

You will have access to outstanding academic and pastoral support, detailed online materials and the full Microsoft 365 suite during your studies.

The course is taught at the Clarence Street building, takes one academic year (September to the end of June) and is taught over 3 days.

IMPORTANT: You must be aged 19 or over to be able to study on an Access programme.

This course leads to...

This pathway is designed for students looking to go onto study a degree in a humanities fields such as; history, geography, English Literature or politics.

The law based option leads onto degrees such as law, law and criminal justice or international relations.

Our students have been successful in progressing onto careers in areas such as Law, probation services, teaching, cultural sector, journalism and charity/public sector along with a variety of other established roles. Our students have also successfully gone on to complete a wide range of further academic qualifications including Masters and PhDs.



Entry Requirements

The entry requirements to study on the humanities pathway are:

You must be aged 19 or over with a GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and Maths. Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths or other equivalent qualifications may be considered.

This course is only available to learners aged 19 and over. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
