What to expect from the course

This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in a basic introduction to the study of IT and will support progression into further study or employment. Using the latest technologies in our purpose-built Digital Academy, learners will have the opportunity to study two core units focused on managing and communicating information and date. The two core units of study are: Creating Systems to Manage Information, and Using Social Media in Business, one of which will be externally assessed, and the other internally assessed.


You will achieve a BTEC BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Information Technology, which is equivalent in size to 0.5 of an A level qualification.

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Career pathways

Completion of this course will mean you are perfectly placed to work in a broad range of industries that use IT. Progression onto further study could support you pursuing including Social Media Manager, Business Systems Manager, and Technical IT Support. If you wish to continue your studies, you could progress to other level 3 qualifications, such as a BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Information Technology.

Entry Requirements

You may find it helpful if you've already achieved a Level 2 qualification in a related subject, or GCSE grade C or 4 in English Language, but this is not essential.


If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19 or over and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
