Study the NCTJ Diploma at the award-winning Liverpool School of Journalism at City of Liverpool College – Merseyside’s only under-graduate NCTJ-accredited course.
The National Council for the Training of Journalists Diploma is the ONLY qualification you need to pursue a career in journalism and leads directly to a job as a multimedia journalist.
The City of Liverpool College has been producing NCTJ qualified journalists since 1991, and we are currently one of the best performing fast-track courses in the country.
Our staff are all journalists with many years’ experience in local and national press and our students benefit from their extensive industry contacts with guest speakers and potential employers.
The NCTJ course is a great alternative to university for students wanting to go straight into a career in journalism, or for graduates who wish to go into the industry. It is also ideal for anyone considering a career in journalism but wanting to go to university first as it carries 48 UCAS points.
We currently run two 18-week fast-track courses each academic year starting in September and late January, as well an academic year course which runs September to June.
Each course delivers a top-class grounding in the essentials required to land a job in journalism, from shorthand to essential journalism, media law to public affairs. Students are also required to produce an E-Portfolio of stories.
You will learn how to plan, film and edit video packages as part of our very successful Videojournalism module, an important skill for multimedia journalists.
Our students are guaranteed work experience, undertaking a placement at the Liverpool Echo, and also have the chance to cover events across the city for a variety of other media outlets.
There will be guest lectures from industry professionals giving a personal insight into working in the media industry.
Progression from this course is into multimedia and broadcast journalism, marketing and public relations, and our previous trainees are working for a wide range of outlets such as, The Independent, ITN News, The BBC, The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool Football Club and Global Radio.
We are currently recruiting for our September 2020 intake and have places available on both our fast-track and academic year courses.
