What to expect from the course

The Level 1 programme for 16-18s is a great way to start your career. It enables you to develop the skills and confidence to progress in college and into work. You will develop a wide range of skills in your chosen subject area as well as gaining qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.

The course in Plastering offers you the opportunity to study a range of plastering skills, and help your progress through the other levels of training offered within plastering. You will be assessed for your English and Maths and work at the level that’s right for you.

Most people know one part of the plasterer’s work; applying wet finishes to walls, ceilings and floors. This is called solid plastering. There is also fibrous plastering, which involves making ornamental plasterwork in a workshop or on site; the kind of plasterwork you see on the ceilings of decorative buildings. As a plasterer you will need a good head for heights, good attention to detail and be a good team player.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

On successful completion you may be able to progress onto Level 2 courses like:
• C.A.A Award Level 2 Diploma in Plastering
• C.A.A NVQ in Plastering (if employed as a plasterer)

Entry Requirements

You must be 16-18. You do not need to have any formal qualifications in Plastering but you will need to show that you have an interest in the area. You will need to be at Entry 3 or above in English/ESOL and maths (GCSE grades F and G).
Important Note :

All students are required to wear appropriate protective equipment in the workshops, including safety boots and overalls. Students may be able to purchase these through the college at a reduced cost.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
