This is an exciting and demanding level 3 Travel & Tourism programme. Designed mainly for full time 16-18 year old students. The course is intended for students who want broad-based vocational preparation for employment in the Travel & Tourism industry or for further study or higher education.
What will I learn?
The work carried out on the programme is very closely related to Business Studies and this is reflected in the core units which relate to Marketing, Customer Care and Business in the Travel & Tourism industry.
The more specialist units of study fully reflect the dynamic and interesting national and international outlook of Travel and the needs and wants of Tourism. Students will be able to study in-depth, specialist vocational areas like:
• UK Destinations
• Tour Operations
• Holiday Representatives
• Conference, Events and Exhibitions
• Special interest Tourism
The course will be ideal for those who can see the new horizons and potential in Liverpool and its urban regeneration. The number of events, specialist tourism and visitor attraction based venues and job opportunities relating to cruise and water related travel, customer service, business house travel, conferencing, marketing and tour operations that will be on offer to well qualified and highly motivated customer focused young people in the next few years will be huge. The course will also be an ideal springboard for those who wish to live and work abroad in any aspect of the travel industry.
QualificationsBTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism
This course leads to...Students who achieve good grades could progress to a variety of Higher Education qualifications. It would be an ideal course for anyone wishing to eventually gain a place on either the Foundation Degree in Travel & Tourism or Foundation Degree in Hospitality; both of which are run at the college and have Liverpool John Moores University as the awarding body. These qualifications allow students to spend a great deal of time working in the industry as well as studying for a degree qualification. Another option would be to go directly into either the Travel or Tourism industry locally, or internationally. Please note that for some university courses you may need GCSE English and/or Maths and Science at C or above. You must check this with the universities you may wish to apply to.
Entry RequirementsApplicants will ideally be 16-18, although exceptions may be made.
• Five GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English
• First Diploma in Travel & Tourism or First Diploma in Hospitality at Merit or Distinction grade or equivalent. Internal applicants progressing from these level 2
Courses should have a minimum of 90% attendance and a good reference from their tutor
• Level 2 qualification(s) or equivalent with experience of working in a service sector related industry together with level 2 key skill in literacy.
All potential candidates will be assessed prior to enrolment on any programme. All applicants will need to complete a satisfactory initial assessment and interview
