Female plasterer makes final three for National Student of the Year Award
Plastering apprentice was selected from candidates across the UK
The City of Liverpool College is proud to announce that our L2 Plastering apprentice, Alicia Johnson, has been selected as final three from across the UK for the National Student of the Year Award. Sponsored in collaboration with FIS and the Worshipful Company of Plasterers, the award recognises great achievement and excellence in the Plastering and Interiors sector.
Alicia said: “Last year I completed my Level 2 Diploma in Plastering and it couldn’t have gone any better. I struggled in the beginning but persisted and got better and better, with support from my tutors, Liam Buckley and Chris Baugh, along with other staff at the College.
”My employer, Sovini, has been incredibly supportive, helping me to improve my skillset and grow. The facilities at the college are incredible. As well as learning the skills and tools needed, the focus on the course is really great at developing other skills, to make sure you become work ready and able to go into a real working environment, which is something that my apprenticeship is also teaching me.
”Through my apprenticeship with Sovini, I’ve also become an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion leader within the workplace, where I look forward to hosting events with the ADHD Foundation, to help make a difference in people’s lives.
”It’s been such an encouraging and supportive environment at the College and I feel so honoured to have been nominated; then to be shortlisted down to final three is just incredible! It’s been a real joint effort to allow me to get to where I am now, and I feel like I’ve already won just to be nominated, so this is such an amazing experience!”
Finalists are invited to attend the awards ceremony in London in November where the winner will be announced.
